Jessica Ackerley, international award winning guitarist and composer, presents a workshop and concert of solo guitar music, inspired by their 2024 High Arctic artist residency.
Join us for the workshop, the concert, or both!
Workshop: 12pm-1:30pm
Have you ever been curious about nature sounds and using them in your music? Jessica invites musicians of all abilities to a workshop, where they will guide you through basic production skills using sound collages and how to channel the immense inspiration that can be found in our natural environments. The workshop will discuss important musical works/artists that have nature as their source of inspiration - Joni Mitchell, Bon Iver, and Bjork. Bring your instrument, creativity, and open mind - come find out how nature can influence your music!
Concert: 2pm-3pm
Ackerley sailed along the coast of Svalbard, Norway to the edge of the pack ice - their music explores the natural sounds of glaciers, melting sea ice, and the stories of Svalbard from Russian Pomors to Norwegian trappers. Their concert showcases how the stunning environment can spark creativity and empathy, through the lens of the guitar.
