Old Beef Stringband

The Old Beef Stringband consists of Ellen Kearney (vocals, guitar, mandolin), Amy Lounder (fiddle, vocals) and Dane George (mandolin, vocals, stepdance), who came together through Halifax's old-time music community in 2015 and spent three years playing at a local old-time jam at the Lion's Head Tavern. In 2018, they formed The Old Beef Stringband and have been seen at festivals (Full Circle Festival, Margaree Harvest Festival), local pubs, farmers markets, square dances and contra-dances.

Their music is rooted in the Appalachian region of the American south, combining aspects African-American blues and European fiddle and ballad traditions. Salty Atlantic breezes season their interpretation of stringband traditionals, and inspire the sound of their original songs and instrumentals.

Zakary Miller

Inspired by a century of musicians who didn't take themselves seriously, Zakary Miller has carried on the tradition by yodeling, hooting and hollering his unique brand of 'Canadiana Swing', combining his love for music from Jugband and Western Swing to Jazz and Folk. Songs of odd observation and nonsensical cheer are delivered with joy and pure excitement for the music. Improvisation and the ability to be silly on one's instrument are important parts of the music for Zakary and they help guide his hiring process when recruiting members for his band of incredible musicians, The Yodelayhee Few.
