In July 2024 we’re offering three summer music camps for kids in Halifax!

Merry Time Fiddle Camp

    Level: all levels, no experience necessary

A day camp for young fiddle players and violinists ages 8-17y in Halifax! Prepare to deep-dive into the vast world of traditional and modern folk music from Cape Breton to Quebec, Ireland to Galicia to Norway & beyond. We’ll talk style, ornaments & GROOVE. We’ll improve our chops and jam a lot. We’ll laugh until our stomachs hurt and play until our fingers callous - in a rock n’ roll fiddle kind of way. Finally, we’ll end the week with an East Coast kitchen party in our loft.

We’ll learn folk songs and tunes, and maybe write a few of our own. In addition to plenty of time for jamming, students can expect guided yoga and stretching sessions, lunchtime picnics at Needham park, silly games like musical charades, indigo dye-ing, quilt making, stage decorating, and a camp variety show.

Discover the harmony between music and science at Merry Time Music Co.'s first ever Piano and Science Day Camp for kids ages 8 - 12y. Join us as we build a banana piano, listen to screaming balloons and marvel at dancing salt! All while learning to play the piano - no experience necessary! 

Students will learn in groups based on their levels, and have access to a keyboard to play at camp. In between music and science experiments we’ll have plenty of time for dance party breaks, time outside at Needham park. and arts and crafts.

Piano & Science Day Camp

A day camp for young Swifties ages 8 - 14y in Halifax! We’ll sing your favourite T-Swift tunes, learn tour worthy choreography, and put together our very own show, complete with costumes and props.

Our expert instructors will guide you in honing your singing and dancing skills, while also encouraging creativity and self-expression. Make new friends, discover your inner performer, and have a ton of fun!

Never taken a singing lesson or danced before? No worries - we encourage folks of all levels to join in! During camp, we’ll learn vocal techniques & dance moves that are geared towards each student’s current skill level. So whether you’re a beginner or an advanced student, you can enjoy a fun week of camp alongside fellow Swifties!

  • Camps are held at Merry Time Music Co.

    5558 Sullivan Street,

    We will walk to Needham park for lunch, weather permitting.

    Accessibility note:
    Our cozy school is 3 floors, with two flights of stairs. A small short haired (and short legged) dog lives here (though probably won’t be around for camp). We will vacuum and dust but dog hair may still be present for those with severe allergies.

  • 2024 CAMP DATES:

    Fiddle Camp: July 8-12
    Piano & Science Camp: July 15 - 19
    Taylor Swift Camp: July 22 - 26

    All camps run from 9am - 4pm, Monday to Friday. Drop off after 8:45am, pickup by 4:15pm.

  • No food is provided. Campers bring a packed lunch, snacks and water bottle.

    No nuts please - Adrianna is very allergic, even though her dog is named Peanut!

  • Each camp works a little differently.

    Fiddle camp is geared towards beginner to advanced fiddle and violin players. If you know how to hold your instrument, play with your bow and fingers on the A and E strings, you will do just fine.

    If you have a young one interested in starting to fiddle from scratch, email adrianna@merrytimemusic.com - we may be able to accommodate them if you are able to come in for a few set-up lessons before camp!

    Piano & Science camp is geared towards all levels - never-ever to advanced.

    Taylor Swift camp is geared towards all levels - never-ever to advanced.

  • Each camp works a little differently.

    Fiddle campers need an instrument - if you don’t have one you can rent a violin from Long & McQuade for around $20 / week.

    Piano campers do not need an instrument at camp - they will be provided a keyboard to play. Having a piano or keyboard at home is helpful but not necessary for this week.

    Taylor Swift campers don’t need to bring any instruments - just their voices!

  • Yes! Thanks to the generosity & support of a dear musical family in our community, we are able to offer scholarship opportunities to 2024 Merry Time Music Co. Summer Campers. Our hope is to encourage a strong generation of music makers by offsetting some of the tuition for applicants who otherwise would not be able to afford to attend camp.
